The soft palate starts to flap once the airflow in the breathing passage becomes irregular due to obstruction. This flapping of the soft palate produces the snoring sound. Snoring, thus, is defined as the sound that has been created by an open mouth because of the uvula and the soft palate’s vibration. Snoring occurs when the person is asleep and the intensity of the sound produced varies in every person.

But perhaps the most common reason for snoring is the obstruction in the breathing passage in general.
